June Recap & Favorites

June, just like most months, has flown by. The summer is more than halfway over, as I will be headed off to college the first week of college.

Speaking of college, I just got back from orientation, which was exhausting but we got some good food! I have been slowly collecting things for my dorm room, so be on the lookout for some more college-related blog posts.

I don't know if you know or have noticed but I have recently developed a blog schedule. In the past, I would just post whenever, I had no real routine behind it. This past month I've been putting up a new post every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday (unless a holiday alters that). Having this schedule in place has been helpful for me to be more productive.

Did the Fourth of July sneak up on anyone else? I feel like I was just in school! But that is fine by me, since I love this holiday. It may just have a lot to do with the fact that it involves a lot of good food, outdoor fun, fireworks, and of course the festive outfits.

For different holidays, I love to give y'all some outfit inspiration. And where Syd you may ask I find that inspo? I look to none other than fellow bloggers, I featured just a few of my favorite red, white, and blue looks above. It makes me wish that the Fourth of July could be a week event, so I could wear all my stripes. Can that be a thing?

I have also included a few pieces that will be perfect additions to any July look!

Boutique Spotlight: Nella Boutique, Pomp and Circumstance & Chapter 2 Boutique

So as I am writing this it's Wednesday morning, I woke up early to try to quickly put this post together. Because there will be some bad weather coming my way today, including rain, damaging winds, hail & possibly a tornado. (At least that's according to the oh so trusty weathermen.) In fear of losing power, I wanted to make sure I got this post all ready to go and scheduled for tomorrow!

If you're a first time visitor to AITS, welcome! (Selfless Self Promotion - don't forget to follow me on BloglovinInstagramTwitter & Pinterest) So if you're new you don't know what this series (Boutique Spotlight) is all about, but don't worry I've got your back. These posts are were I talk about new online boutiques I've recently found and been loving, I love to promote shopping small especially when clothes are involved. If you know of a boutique you love, comment down below or shoot me an email ( I'd love to check it out!

Nella Boutique

Nella Boutique is one that I've been following for a while now, I love to keep up with them on Instagram. They have some trendy pieces as well as some essential basics, and they have FREE SHIPPING on orders over $50.

Hi my name is Syd and I have an obsession with tassels. But then again,
who doesn't? This dress is just so fun for summer!

The store that I'm working at this summer is usually pretty cold,
so I'm always looking for some cute tops with longer sleeves to wear.

Didn't I warn you about my obsession with tassels? Plus how
could you resist this adorable dress with such an affordable price?

Pomp & Circumstance

Pomp: noun; a show of magnificence
Circumstance: noun; attendant formalities and ceremonial
Pomp and Circumstance: a formal ceremony

Pomp & Circumstance is yet again another adorable boutique,
with great affordable pieces to add to your wardrobe.

Viva Antigua Top

This top just belongs in the suitcase of
someone headed to Europe for the summer.

Crochet Top
Crochet Top - $42

I had been eyeing a top like this from AE,
but this one is much more affordable!

Chapter 2 Boutique

I am obsessed with Chapter 2 Boutique, this shop
matches my style perfectly! I want everything!!

This would be another great long sleeve top to
be able to wear to work, I love the stripes!

I just can't manage to wear jean shorts when it's boiling outside, so I
love a good printed pair like this to throw on with a piko top and be done!

That's all for today, comment down
below what your favorite piece was!

Lilly Pulitzer Agendas (2016-17)

Last year was my first time having a Lilly Pulitzer planner, and I really loved it. I had the Large size and I thought it was the perfect size for all my school shenanigans. But I am considering getting a second smaller one dedicated for blogging. My two favorite prints featured here are Tusk in Sun & Southern Charm.

What agenda will you be getting for the upcoming school year?

L. Alexandra Designs

I am so excited to be sharing this adorable shop, L. Alexandra Designs with y'all today. During the summer I am usually just throwing my hair up in a ponytail and not putting much thought into it. And these creaseless hair ties are just perfect and this shop has so many fun colors & patterns. These also look so much cuter on your wrist! I was kindly sent some hair ties that I wanted to show you.

Afternoon Tea with Dustin of Dustin Mitchell Design

I've said this once but I'll say it again, one of my favorite parts of blogging is the people whom I've met through out. This community is so welcoming and genuine. A few weeks ago during a Twitter chat I had the chance to meet the lovely Dustin of Dustin Mitchell Design. She does just about everything from photography to design services, this girl does it all. I'm so glad that I got the chance to 'chat' with her and be able to share more about her.

I also got the chance to feature a fashion blog post on her site, check it out here.

First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself!
Hey there! My name is Dustin and I love cookie dough ice cream, everything Kate Spade, Lounging by the pool and overall being creative.

The number one loves in my life are my husband Michael and my fur baby, Thorson Eugene Mitchell. And yes I did give my dog an awesome full name.

But back to being creative, my full time job is being a designer. I am a freelance graphic designer for anyone looking to stand out in this world of visual eye candy. I also do Photography because that goes hand in hand with creating digital designs for me. But then sometimes I also like to hope on my sewing machine and just make a handmade item.

Did you always want to go into design?
Actually no! The first graphic design class I took in college was dreadful. Or I didn’t have the right attitude to digest the skills. I told myself that I would never become a graphic designer and that I was going to be a famous impressionist painter. I had grand dreams and delusions during that period.

After a while I realized I didn’t have the needed knowledge to showcase my paintings and went back to graphic design. Once I had the desire to learn it I soak it all up like a sponge. I love everything about digital creating now and couldn’t imagine my life without it.

Where do you find your inspiration & creativity?
I find my inspiration and creativity from everyday people and other artists. I love finding other talented creative on Instagram especially. And of course Anchored in the South has been very motivating to for me too. I love everything you share.

What's your advice for anyone starting out in design or photography?
I would say to take advantage of YouTube! Seriously there is so much free information out there. Even after spending countless hours earning my art degree I still spend a lot of time on YouTube learning. Never stop enhancing your skill set.

Where do you see yourself in the next few years?
I honestly have a lot of interests and I’m just not sure about that yet. And you know what, I think that’s perfectly okay. I’m in a period of my life where I’m just discovering everything I love instead of narrowing in on a niche’. I believe I will eventually narrow in, but I’m just not ready to yet.

Can you tell us about some of the goals you have for your business,
blog, and just life in general?
My goal right now is to be consistent in everything I do. I want to post videos, blogs, and social media ads regularly. And I have been doing a great job of that this year, but I can always get better.

As for as life goals, my husband and I plan on buying a house this summer. Which I am totally pumped about! There will be a lot of opportunities I can take advantage of having more space.

What's one of your favorite posts or projects you've done?
My favorite project to date and one that I don’t talk about a lot yet is my children’s picture book Alivia’s Angels. I wrote and illustrated the book myself three years ago as a senior in college. It’s available for sale here.

My Favorites from Lulus (Under $100)

One of the sites that I love to fill my shopping cart at is Lulus! They have such cute & girly pieces. I wanted to share a few items that have been on my wishlist that would be perfect for the summertime!

Also, if you don't have plans today I've got you covered. Lauren of Elle & Company and Kate of  The Small Things Blog are hosting a webinar at 1 pm EST. They are talking all about how to grow a successful and memorable blog. This is my first webinar and I'm exciting to learn new things. You can register for free here. Let me know if you're going!

I am such a sucker for florals, and I love this print in particular.
And I can't ever pass up a good maxi dress.

This dress looks like something from Free People at a fraction
of the cost. I think this is my favorite thing in this post, the colors are so
vibrant and pretty!

Navy Blue Print Dress - ON SALE for $27

This dress is perfect for summer, to just throw on and head out
the door pair with some cute wedges or sandals.

If y'all haven't already checked it out Tuesday's post was all about my
favorite summer trends. Of course, off the shoulder was featured
on the list. And I'm particularly fond of this lovely blush color.

Living in the Chicago suburbs, I don't own many warm weather
clothes. My wardrobe  mostly consists of sweaters and scarves,
so I've been on the lookout for some cute tops. I love this slate blue
color, and the details are so pretty.

Whenever I'm at a shoe store I like to find the most outrageously high heels
and see how far I can get walking in them. It's usually only last a few inches
before I have to steady myself, I don't know how people walk in heels! But
being only 5'6'' it's nice to have a small heel for special events. I thought these
were the perfect height, and I love how feminine and girly they are.

Tan Slide Sandals - ONLY $15

Remember that denim-esque dress I showed earlier, with the cute
little tassels? These sandals would be perfect to pair with it!

What was your favorite item I featured?

My Favorite Summer Trends

With new seasons come new trends. There have been so many adorable new trends that I’ve been seeing everywhere that I wanted to share. Let’s get into it!

Also, Dustin of Dustin Mitchell Design also featured this post on her blog! I am doing an interview with her for my blog soon, so be on the lookout!

Off the Shoulder.jpg

Off The Shoulder Tops/Dresses
When I was brainstorming this list, this was the first thing that came to mind. Remember how when Pitch Perfect came out and everyone was always quoting it. From the horizontal running to Aca-scuse me to finishing him like a cheesecake. Don’t get me wrong I loved the soundtrack but with every other teenage girl working on memorizing the cup song, I was so tired of it. But that is not the case with off the shoulder clothing pieces. They have been everywhere, and I still can’t seem to get enough of them! I think you get the idea!

This print used to remind me of picnics and tablecloths in old diners. But now it has easily become one of my favorite prints, it still doesn’t beat stripes though! It’s such a classy and feminine addition to any dress, pair or shorts, or just about anything for that matter.

Palm Tree Print.jpg

Palm Tree Print
This isn’t as popular as it used to be, but I will forever be a fan of this print. It’s so perfect for the summer time, and is a great look for vacation. I also love using this print for home decor or phone cases, it looks cute on everything!

I still haven’t made the plunge to pick up a pair of espadrilles, and I don’t know what’s stopping me?! They are such a cute and practical shoe, they can make a simple outfit instantly ten times cuter. They are the perfect shoe for summer!

Graduation Gift Ideas for Her (Under $100)

With everyone's graduation already done or just around the corner, it's time to start brainstorming ideas for any graduates in your life. I have compiled a few graduation gift ideas for any female graduate. All of them are super for ideas that are all less than $100!
Planner: Whether they have just graduated college or high school, this is a very practical and pretty gift to give.

Duffel Bag: This would be perfect if the graduate is go to college far away or if they're planning to study abroad.

Gift Card/Cash: A lot of people think that gifting either of these two items makes your gift impersonal. But I think these are the best and most useful gifts! If you know someone who just graduated high school get them a Bed Bath & Beyond or Container Store gift card for dorm room shopping. If you know someone who just graduated high school get them a gift card to a furniture store such as Crate & Barrel or Ikea! The options are endless.

Headphones: These would be great for any college student, and you can't have too many headphones!

Water Bottle: A cute water bottle is always the way to go.

Stationery: Now they don't have any excuse not to write you snail mail while they're away at school.

Subscription Box: This is probably my favorite on this list. I love getting packages in the mail, and if you sign up for a yearly subscription, they'll get a new box each month.

Speaker: This would be such a fun gadget to have while at school.

Book: If they ever happen to have free time, they can pick this up and read a few chapter. If not, it still makes for super cute decoration.

Do you know anyone graduating this year?
