Winter White Out

While I am fully ready for spring and warmer weather, I know that I will miss winter fashion. I especially love the 'winter white' trend! I've recently purchased a few white sweaters so be on the lookout for them soon.

Mail Time Vol. 1

Today's post is a something new that I've been wanting to incorporate into my blog for the longest time. It's where I share things that I've purchased recently, basically a haul! Let me know if you'd like to see more of these posts!

I am not a very lucky person, so I was very surprised to hear that I had won a gift card to MarleyLilly! I have been loving these two pieces that I purchased, they go with just about anything. And with the cold weather, I've been getting my wear out of the vest!

One of my favorite stores lately has been Charming Charlies. So I of course got a gift card from Christmas and these are the pieces that I picked out. Can you tell I love gold tones!?

If you don't know what Sparkle & Whim is, you're really missing out! It's a fabulous, affordable online boutique specializing in jewelry. This piece that they sent me is very simple, and matches just about anything. Look out for an outfit post featuring this necklace!

I Left My Heart In...

My dad always said that I should go to a different college every year. My mom always said that I need a job where I get to travel.

I have always had an adoration of traveling. From the airports, to the airplanes, to trying new food, to staying at hotels. To just about everything aside from having to pack a suitcase, I am not a fan of packing! I was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, in a town surrounded by a bubble that very few people manage to pop. I have never been one to enjoy having a routine, and taking trips provide new explorations, journeys, and experiences.

I find that when places are so extraordinary it leads to a struggle of trying to describe it. That's how I felt when visiting, and why I left my heart in San Antonio, Texas.

My sophomore year in high school my dad, my younger brother and I made a trip down to Texas. We had gone to a football game, spent a few days in Galveston, ate lots of BBQ, and made a last minute stop to the River Walk in San Antonio.

I had never heard of it, but my dad insisted that we go and let me tell you, I am glad we did! As I mentioned earlier, when describing this place it usually results in a conundrum. But I will give it a go anyway.

The San Antonio River Walk is a public park, lined with restaurants, hotels, and attractions. You can take a river boat tour down the river, where the guide will talk your ear off with fascinating facts all about the River Walk and San Antonio.

Even though I have never been, I felt like I was in Italy strolling down the street admiring the architecture and smelling pastries from the nearest bakery. Once we left, I felt...well indescribable. It is such a unique and remarkable place, and one of my favorite places on Earth.

Printable Joanie

My first day of second semester began yesterday, and with that came craziness, overwhelmingness, and disheveledness! (I might of made a few of those words up.) I think of myself as a Type A person, in that I like things neat and organized. As most normal people would, they have a slight obsession with organization, planning, & stationary. That's why I thought it would be perfect to share this adorable Etsy shop I discovered, called Printable Joanie.

She offers planner pages, planner stickers, and even cute binder covers. She sent me (digitally) a few items for me to share with y'all! And I've been finding them to be perfect with the new semester just starting.

I hope y'all enjoyed this post. I've been thinking of featuring more Etsy/small shops here on the blog, what do you think?

Life Lately (Jan 10-16)

This past Sunday, was irregular because we were in Tennessee. We took a trip down to Knoxville to drop my brother off at college. The weather was all of thirty degrees warmer, but hey every little bit makes the difference. Because as I write this it's in the single digits outside with lots of snow piled up. Here's a few photos that I snapped from our trip.

There was orange everywhere!

Headed back home:(

Stopped at Dead End BBQ for lunch!

Coming back on Tuesday, I was back to school on Wednesday and successfully made it through all of my finals! And I had Friday off, because it was scheduled as a finals make-up day!

On Saturday, my mom and I ran errands like going to the post office and the bank. In the afternoon to late evening I 'worked' for my dad because he had a few chores needed done.

I thought it would be fun to share what has been on my reading list for the past week, trust me there were many more but I had narrow it down otherwise you'd be scrolling for days!

Collab: Winter Essentials

In case you couldn't tell by the title of this post, it is a collab with one of my favorite bloggers, Rebecca of Sunny Rebecca! We will both be sharing our winter essentials/must haves for this cold season.

Hat/Earmuffs: Aside from baseball hats, I never was very fond of wearing hats. But living in the Chicagoland area, I had to choose between looking silly or being warm. I chose the latter.

Scarves: I have been struggling these last few weeks trying to find a place to put all of my scarfs, I need my own closet for them. (As I need for most things!)

Slippers/Moccasins: It's so cold during the winter and if I am not under a blanket, I wear slippers to keep my toes warm!

Hand Sanitizer: I am just getting over a cold, and it might have something to do with the fact that I am running out of B&BW mini hand sanitizers!

Lotion: I have naturally dry skin, but it gets a ba-jillion times worse during the winter time. Putting on lotion has now become part of my daily routine.

Chapstick: I don't kid when I say that I cannot go anywhere without chapstick. Even when I'm leaving my room to go eat breakfast, I bring one with me. My lips are always chapped!

Hot Chocolate: Totally random yet totally necessary! Especially when drunken from a cute mug!

Body Wash: And the randomness continues, but I could not resist B&BW's sales!

Candles: I absolutely love burning candles in my room, it just makes everything so cozy!

I hope you enjoyed reading this post, and don't forget to check out Rebecca's winter essentials! And let me know what you can't live without during the winter!

You have made known to me the path of life.

#BeBold2016 Linkup: Blogging Goals 2016

The #BeBold2016 Linkup continues, hosted by Gina, Kate, Catherine, Allie and Christina. I'll be sharing my blogging goals for this new year.

I am warning you that I am going to be completely cliche in saying that I feel like just yesterday I was writing my blogging goals for last year. And the cliches will continue as I say, this year has flown by. Even though I am guilty of writing 2015 on all of my papers, I am ready to jump into the new year with Anchored in the South!

Collaborate with Other Bloggers
Through blogging I have been able to make some amazing friends, and I don't know why I've taken so long to reach out to any of them to work together. If you're interested in collaborating, please don't hesitate to contact me via social media or email (anchoreditsouth@gmail.com)

Write a Guest Post
I have always wanted to write a guest post, I think it would be a great way to expand my audience and collaborate with fellow bloggers!

Be Consistent with Posts
One of the struggles that I have is to be consistent with my blog posting. I don't have a set schedule but my aim is for three or four posts a week!

Grow Social Media Channels
Social media is a very important part of my blog, it allows for my blog brand to be expanded beyond just this domain. If you're not already, check me out on Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, & Snapchat @anchoreditsouth

Invest in a DSLR Camera
I find that this achievement, per say, has managed to make it onto most if not all of my wishlists or goal lists. Ever since I started blogging, photography has become a big part of my life and I hope to invest in a DSLR Camera, I've had my eye on this one.

Quality Over Quantity
Oy with the cliches already! I promise this will be the last one! With trying to be consistent with my blog posts this year I also want to remind myself to keep it quality content and avoid trying to get something up just to get something up!

Post More Blogging Tips
Last year I would try to post about different blogging tips, and I myself love reading advice from other bloggers and I hope to post more of them this upcoming year.

Build Up My Newsletter
This past December I sent out my first newsletter, sign up for it here. I've kept it to only sending it out monthly and hope to see my newsletter list multiply this year.

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.

Life Lately (Jan 3-9)

Happy Sunday!

It is currently 11 pm and I am laying in a hotel room in Ohio watching the Steelers & Bengals game, but more on that later!

This year I made a Reader Survey (you can check it out here) and one of the questions I asked about was if y'all would be interested in seeing a weekly peek into my life, and I got lots of positive feedback, so here we go!

This week was our first week back from break, and it seemed to last forever! My school is within walking distance to a bowling alley so on Mon/Wed/Fri we walk over to bowl. I'm not very good at bowling, but my friends and I entertain ourselves by competing to see who has the most creative bowling style. Side note - bowling backwards is harder than it sounds!

Unlike most high schools, my school has finals after break, this upcoming week to be exact. I'm not too stressed since I already have all A's in my classes, yay! However, I'll be studying for math & psychology this weekend.

As I mentioned, we are currently in Ohio, just outside of Cincinnati. We are taking my brother down to college, in Tennessee, and since I love road trips I decided to tag along. We are taking a pit stop here and will be in Tennessee by the time you are reading this! We'll be back on Tuesday, and I've already taken the two finals that I'll miss both those days. Unusual for me because I have a bad case of procrastination. Anyway, if you'd like to have even more of a peek into my life add me on Snapchat: anchoreditsouth

In case you were wondering, the Steelers won!

Be Bold 2016 Linkup: Word for the Year

First and foremost, I would like to mention that I have been writing 2015 on all of my papers. At least it is pretty easy to change a 5 to a 6!

Anyway, today's post is super exciting today. I know I say that for pretty much every post, but I truly mean it this time. I am on the edge of my seat, I am bouncing the walls, I am an eager beaver, I think you get the point. I will now introduce the #BeBold2016 Linkup hosted by Kate of A Thought And A Half, Gina of Gina Alyse, Christina of The Social Butterfly Girl, Allie of Call Me Sass A Fras, & Catherine of The Blissful Mind. Every Friday during the month of January there will be a new topic regarding the new year and new goals. As you might of guessed by the title, this week's topic is about our 'word for the year.' I have seen people throwing around words like; devotion, confident, persistent, generous, & focused. While of course I would love to be all of these things, the one word that came to mind to me was FEARLESS.

Don't lie to yourself, if you're anything like me you started singing Fearless by Taylor Swift. Though when this word first came to mind I was in my study hall class and I don't think it would of been appropriate to reenact one of TSwift's hits. American Idol is always an option, I suppose.

In all seriousness, I chose this word because of where I am at in my life. I am finishing up my first semester as a high school senior, I will be going off to college in the fall, and in June I will be turning 18 aka into an adult. While I am both thrilled and apprehensive about the future, I can't wait to see what it holds. Through the experiences of this year I want to have the mindset of being fearless.

When you look up most definitions of fearless, it says something along the lines of "without fear" or "lacking fear." But when I look to be fearless during this new year, it means that I will be afraid to jump and fall (another Swifty hit) but I do it anyway. To me, being fearless means that you are terrified but you don't let it stop you.

This can be as simple as trying a new food, talking to a unacquainted classmate, or even trying a new fashion trend. Most people view fearless people as people who take big and exciting risks, but even the little things can be exhilarating.

If you made it to the end, bravo! I hope this maybe gave you some inspiration to be fearless or even come up with your very own word for the year!

"Cause I don't know how it gets better than this
You take my hand and drag me head first
Fearless"

Reader Survey

Happy New Year! I can't believe that 2016 is here! This past year has brought lots of great memories, and I'm so proud of how far my blog has come. I want to give a big thanks to all my readers & blogger friends who have supported Anchored in the South. This is my first year holding a reader survey, and I hope it gives me some insight of what y'all want to see in the new year. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to fill it out and provide me with some feedback.
