Did You Like Fall Before It Was Cool?

Most of the time I've never been one to follow trends. I like what I like even if it isn't considered "cool" or "in style". When I think trends I typically think of fashion, fads (Webkinz anyone?), or in this case seasons. For me fall was always about raking leaves into little mazes in my yard with my siblings. It was about gearing up for College Football Saturdays, the best day of the week in my opinion. It was about carving lopsided faces into squirrel-bitten pumpkins to display on your front steps. It was about burning our tongues because we couldn't wait to drink our hot chocolate.

Nowadays, I find that media amplifies fall. Everyone always counts down the days till they can order and pretend they like PSLs from Starbucks. Everyone always starts preparing and creating those recipes and DIYs they've been pinning on Pinterest the entire year. Everyone always is prepping for the return of their favorite TV series to begin again.

I suppose I could say that I'm a person of tradition. With the expanded appreciate of the fall season increasing, I still like to think that I love the fall because of its nostalgic factor!

Did you like fall before it was cool?

Sincerely,
Syd

  1. I agree that the media tends to really hype up the seasons, especially summer and fall. I always loved all of the fall holidays as a kid, and I loved seeing all of the leaves change. This is such an interesting take on the season, and I'm glad you wrote about it in this light!

  2. I seriously hated fall before it became so hyped. I hated wearing sweaters and putting away my summer clothes for a cooler season. Once I started blogging though I realized that fall was super hyped and felt that I needed to take part in all festivities. Now, I feel that fall is a fun time, but definitely not my favorite part of the year.

  3. This is such a good point! I have always genuinely loved fall but I definitely feel like the media paints this perfect picture of PSLs, cozy sweaters, and leaves falling in cold weather and overdoes it to the extremes. I love it when bloggers take a step back and speak what they really feel instead of just going along with the crowd to blend in so thank you thank you for writing this!

  4. Thanks for writing this post Sydney! I think part of it has to do with the basic white girl stereotype of a girl with her PSL, yoga pants, and Uggs. Either way, I still love fall (and Pumpkin Spice Lattes!).

    1. I definitely agree Katie! Pumpkin is one of the foods that I don't like but desperately wish I did, I may just have to try out the PSL anyway:)

  6. PSL's are disgusting and I hate most pumpkin food, but I've always loved fall! Growing up in Dallas, I have memories of hayrides, pumpkin patches and fall carnivals. I love me some fall, but fall here in Vegas doesn't start until late October.

  7. I didn't mind fall when I was living in Hawaii because it was always so warm! Not much of a fan of cold weather and having to layer up a million different ways. But I definitely agree that Fall is just too hyped up with all the pumpkin this and that! But what I am happy for is Grey's coming back this season haha!
