Afternoon Tea with Chic in Carolina

I am so excited to be continuing this fun blog series. This week I interviewed Katie from Chic in Carolina. We discussed blogging, fashion, school, and more!

What made you want to start blogging?
Reading other blogs! My favorite blogs inspired me to start my own!

What's your favorite blog post you've written?
My all-time favorite probably has to be "How to be a Lady in Today's World"!

Most worn clothing piece in your closet?
Oh my gosh this is hard! Probably my J. Crew City Mini Skirt in Navy, my Lilly Pulitzer shifts, my Riding Boots, or my Jack Rogers!

What's your favorite outfit to rock at school?
I have a uniform so unfortunately I don't get to choose what I wear! On the days we have "dress down", I love wearing a fun top, jeans, and sandals (or riding boots in the winter!)

Favorite subject in school?
My favorite subject is English!

What advice can you give to avoid bloggers/writers block?
Keep a running list of all posts ideas! That way, if you run into a writing block you have something to fall back on! Or check out some of your favorite blogs or Pinterest for inspiration!

What's been your favorite part of blogging?
My favorite part of blogging (so far) is being able to share my fashion and lifestyle and what not with others! I also love all the connections I have made with other bloggers!

Thanks again Katie for your lovely answers! If you're a blogger and want to be featured send me an email (sincerelysyd9@gmail.com)!

Sincerely,
Syd

Tips for Writing Your College Application

Someone pinch me! I cannot believe I am a senior this year in high school, time just flew by! I am super excited, yet stressed to be applying to colleges this year. I am, of course, not an expert when it comes to these things. However, I wanted to share with you some advice I've learned from my experience as well as my siblings and friends.

Be aware of dates
Nothing can be worse than missing a submission deadline. I have all of my important dates for college mapped out to stay on top of things. Don't be a procrastinator, you don't want to be scrambling around late November to submit your application.

Brainstorming
With limited time in my English class, I feel like we never take the time to brainstorm ideas for our essays. Don't neglect to skip this part for your application. I find it difficult to just simply start writing an essay. Before you get to typing keep a list of bullet points of details and ideas. That way it will make your essay come much more easily.

Editing
I remember my sophomore year, after turning in our English papers, our teacher asked us for a raise of hands of who actually read through it all before turning it in. You'd be surprised when I say that only a fourth of the class actually raised their hands. When it comes to rereading your college application/essay, don't do it immediately after you finish. Save the document, and allow your eyes some time for a break. Once you're reading to reread, be sure to read it allow, I promise it will help you catch silly spelling/grammar mistakes!

Get Feedback
A new website that I have been using recently is called EditRevise. It essentially acts as your English teacher or your college admissions officer. EditRevise is an online service that can be used to provide feedback on your college app essays. After submitting my first essay draft, it took roughly (get it?) 48 hours until I got my feedback. (You can also pay a little more to receive the feedback within 6 hours, if you're in a hurry.) The comments I got back I found to be very helpful and detailed. I also liked how if a editor commented on a section, they would provide me with a sample sentence. With submitting three revisions of my essay, I found that it allowed me a great foundation for when I write my other essays.

Another aspect of this site I found helpful was their free e-book that they offered. In this e-book, they provide you even more tools and advice on how to write your best college application essay. If you'd like to give EditRevise a go, use the code SYDNEY10 to get $10 off. Also another exciting promotion, EditRevise is hosting a essay contest where you can win a $10,000 scholarship!

I hope you found these tips to be useful, I am not an expert so I'd appreciate it if you have any advice to help me in this process!

Sincerely,
Syd

Afternoon Tea with Pinky and the Prep

Happy Saturday! Today I am so pumped to be starting a new blog series. I'm going to be interviewing fellow bloggers, asking them about blogging, style, and everything in between. I hope to post two interviews a month, and we shall see how it goes. Today I am interviewing the lovely Julie from Pinky and the Prep, I asked her a few questions and here's what she had to say!

What inspired you to start your blog?
I was inspired by all the beautiful fashion blogs that I had followed for as long as I had an Instagram! I thought that it would be fun to create an account to share my sense of style, and get to see others senses of style (:

Three words to describe your blog?
Pink-Classic-Bright!

Where do you draw inspiration from?
I love to take inspiration from other bloggers! I also work at a clothing store and take a lot of inspiration for the items we have in the store (:

Besides blogging, what other interests do you have?
I love music! I am currently a drum major for my high school marching band, and I teach private piano and saxophone lessons (: I've been playing piano since I was 5 and the saxophone since I was 11 (:

How would you describe your style?
I love anything pink! I like to think my style has a classic foundation, but I add fun trends to each look.

What is your go-to outfit?
My go-to outfit is a pair of boyfriend jeans, a simple top, a big statement necklace, my Jack Rogers and some pearl earrings (:

What's your favorite social media app?
Instagram!! But Pinterest is a close second!

What advice can you give a newbie blogger?
Be yourself! Don't get caught up in followers and likes, but make posts that make you happy and excited about whatever you are blogging about!

Thank you for reading, and a big thanks to Julie for letting me interview her!! If you're a blogger and want to be interviewed just shoot me an email (sincerelysyd9@gmail.com) I would love to feature you here on my blog!

Sincerely,
Syd

Throwback Thursday Playlist

So these past few weeks I've been thourouly cleaning every nook and cranny in my room. I was going through my bookshelf, which also contains all of my movies. I saw all of High School Musical movies together, and had a total flashback to all the awesomeness that is the HSM soundtrack. This lead me to pulling out my old HSM CD's (please tell me you know what a CD is!) and jamming out to Zac Efron and the gang. That of course, lead me to making this playlist of some old but still amazing songs.

What was your favorite song when you were younger?

Sincerely,
Syd

#BloggerBTS: Desk Accessories

Desk Accessories

Happy Tuesday everyone, today is week three of the Bloggers Back to School Linkup hosted by Cathleen and Nicole. This week is dedicated to the one the only...DESKS! Ever since my obsession with PBTeen magazines in middle school I have always wanted a desk. I can't wait until college, because that means I get my very own desk! I've created a little graphic of accessories I would love to use to decorate my desk!:)

What do you use to decorate your desk?

Sincerely,
Syd

Currently Craving

This peasant top is just beautiful, it would look adorable paired with dark jeans and riding boots for the fall.

This is never something I would originally pick, but it's really starting to grow on me. I like to pick a few things every once in a while that are out of my comfort zone.

Would you believe me if I told you these Sam Edelman espadrilles are only $19.99 and come in tons of different colors!?

I love scarves, and I think this one would be perfect to add to my collection. With neutral colors and stripes...I'm sold!

This dress is from F21, and I've had my eye on it for forever (see what I did there)! The colors are perfect for fall, and you can easily layer it for those cooler days.

I've seen this top at Old Navy before, but whenever I go it's always out of my size! I may just have to be making an online Old Navy purchase soon because all of their new fall arrivals are to cute to resist!

I hope y'all enjoyed this post, and a huge thanks for reading along. Another plus is that everything in this post is under $25! As much as I am in love with Rebecca Minkoff bags, they aren't really in my budget being a high school student. I wanted to keep this post realistic, featuring products I could see myself purchasing and wearing. Although who knows, maybe one day I can splurge a little!:)

Sincerely,
Syd

#BloggersBTS: Organization Tips for High School

Time for week 2 in the Bloggers Back to School Linkup hosted by Cathleen and Nicole. This week is all about organization, which is very important for school. I hope some of these tips help you keep an organized (or at least somewhat) school life!

Buy a quality backpack
I have a slight obsession with cute and colorful backpacks, especially from Target. However, with all of the different folders, binders, and textbooks you'll be lugging around school, they may not be the best option. Going into my freshmen year I bought a North Face backpack that has plenty of space to keep everything separated and organized!

Utilize a planner
My school always provides us with a school planner to use. I always use it for any of my homework assignment, school events, or any big tests coming up. This year I decided to buy a Lilly Pulitzer agenda too, for organizing my blogging schedule. It allows me to separate my schedules, and it allows everything to be concise and clear.

Buy a pencil pouch
Do you guys ever forget what some things are called? Because I was just blanking on the word pencil pouch (well... I guess it's two words). Anyway, I love school supplies and I always buy tons of new writing utensils each year. A good way to keep the all organized is to buy a pencil pouch to store them in. Also remember to keep a few spare pens and pencils in your backpack, in case you forget your pencil pouch. Which always seems to happen to me!

Clean Your Computer
I'm afraid to say that as much effort as you put into that Rube Goldberg project in seventh grade, I'm pretty sure it won't help you with your Spanish homework. I always find useless documents on my school drive, that are just sitting in cyber space (side note: Did anyone ever watch that show Cyber Chase, it was the best!) taking up room. So spend an afternoon cleaning it out.

What helps you stay organized during the school year?

This is quite random but I found a quiz about what High School Musical character you would be. Aside from the fact that it involves high school (partially) I thought it would be fun to take it! Once you take it comment down below which character you got, I got Chad:)

Sincerely,
Syd

#BloggersBTS Wardrobe Basic Essentials

BTS: Wardrobe Basic Essentials

Whenever I go shopping for back to school, I always make a list of clothing essentials I need. It helps me to focus and keep on track, instead of shopping endlessly, as much as we want to do that:) So as part of the Bloggers Back to School Linkup hosted by Cathleen of Classy Cathleen and Nicole of Empire Styles I am bring you guys my back to school wardrobe basic essentials!

Tops
I always like to get new v-neck tees, you can never seem to have enough. They have so many different prints and colors, that you can style in so many ways. I always love having a nice quality chambray top, which is perfect for fall.

Bottoms
Jean shopping, next to swimsuit shopping, is probably the worst. But, for back to school having an array of colors and styles of jeans is an essential. I typically don't start wearing jeans till around October, so I love to buy a few pair of neutral chinos for my wardrobe as well.

Shoes
I love wearing Converse to school, they are super comfortable for walking around and if you get a neutral color they will go with a lot of things. I also like to buy a nice pair of sandals for the first few months of the school year when it's a bit warmer.

Backpack
I remember in middle school, I had this small book bag that barely fit a binder. Going into high school I knew I had to get a sturdy backpack. I have a North Face one that gets the job done!

Sincerely,
Syd

I Love Olive

I must start by saying how proud I am of the title of this post, I thought it was really punny!! Get it?! Yes, I know I'm lame:) Anyway, it is practically fall, or football season as I like to call it. From the layers to the scarves to the sweaters, it is by far my favorite season. I think olive is a great color to wear for the fall, here are a few pieces to give you some inspiration.

What are your favorite colors to wear in the fall?

Sincerely,
Syd

#BloggersBTS Back to School Outfit Inspiration

BTS #1

What would a fashion post be without stripes?! I love this simple striped dress because you can dress it up if you're going to an event, or you can dress it down if you are going to school. I also added some fun bracelets to add a pop of color.

BTS #2

This is probably my favorite outfits out of all three. This look is totally my style, and I can totally picture myself wearing this to school.

BTS #3

I don't know about you guys but my school always blasts the air-conditioning. I love the look of sweaters over cute sundresses and I think they are very practical for the below freezing classrooms.

I am so pumped to be participating in the super fun Bloggers Go Back to School Linkup hosted by Cathleen of Classy Cathleen and Nicole of Empire Styles. Each week has a different topic, this week is fashion week! I will try to post again later this week, I can't wait to share some more back to school posts with y'all!

Sincerely,
Syd
